Superlatives do not do this 2019 vintage justice, and we believe it will go down in history as one of Napa Valley’s finest. Ample winter precipitation nurtured healthy spring soils, and foggy mornings and moderate temperatures allowed the clusters to mature at a measured pace. In the words of our winemaker, Julien Fayard: “The longer, cooler growing season produced expressive and powerful wines – true vins de garde with the structure and intensity to age beautifully for many years.” These dynamic wines offer vibrant fruit with sensational texture and density that will only deepen with time. The 2019 Massale Selection Syrah delivers intense fruit, bold aromatics, and sumptuous textures. The nose offers a heady mix of fragrant dried plums, toasted black peppercorns, dried flowers and wild game. A wave of intense blue fruits and spice washes over the palate with soft, brushed suede tannins and a volcanic minerality beneath. Notes of dried cranberry and pomegranate molasses bring a fresh lift of acidity to the densely fruited core, and carry the wine through a long finish of warm baking spice, blueberry compote, and rich plum.
